It was a lifelong dream of Melvin Osmond to see the small harbour of this community made into a gathering place for boating enthusiasts, showcasing the beauty of the harbour and its scenic view.
Before the final phase of the marina's development was completed, on December 9, 2014 at the age of 72, one of our community leaders Melvin Osmond lost his battle with lymphoma thus devastating his family and the whole community.
Melvin was a great leader, an active volunteer and a pillar of strength who showed so much passion and pride for the community of Smith's Harbour.
In 1953, at the age of eleven, Melvin and his parents moved from Birchy Cove to Smith's Harbour bringing with them, their family home. Melvin's father moved his family to Smith's Harbour by way of motorboat and painted on the side of Mr. Osmonds boat was the letters JMO which represented his only son, Johnathan Melvin Osmond.
From the time that Melvin moved to Smith's Harbour until the day of his passing, Melvin considered this little harbour to be the best place on earth and the most serene place to be.
As a community, we are so proud of the developments that have taken place here and would wish to continue to remember Johnathan Melvin Osmond and his hard work and dedication to this little community which he loved to call home.
